Ana Pêgo e Isabel Minhós Martins - Plasticus Maritimus

As a child, biologist Ana Pêgo didn't play in the backyard, but almost always on the beach. She went for walks, observed tide pools, and collected fossils. As she grew up, however, she realized that a new invasive species was becoming increasingly common in the sand: plastic.

To better raise awareness about its consequences on the planet, Ana decided to collect and name this species. She called it Plasticus maritimus, and since then she has never given it a break, starting a project to raise awareness about a more sensible use of plastics.

Inspired by this project, this book contains information about the relationship between plastic and the oceans. It also includes a guide to preparing trips to the beach, with the aim of collecting and analyzing specimens of this species. Objective: to motivate change.

Plasticus maritimus deserves to have its days numbered!
