Over the past two years, in the rhythm of retirement, living amidst shadows and light, I have fictionalized two works, two poetic expressions, woven with threads of complementary opposites: light-shadow, humor-seriousness, lightness-gravity, form-content, yin-yang.
One is not a graphic or textual illustration of the other. Each expression follows its own path – with modulations and occasional intersections: between the first and last pages, there is a change of tone shared by poems and figures; in a sociopolitical ‘Pause’, the two expressions play with each other; and in the two introductory pages, which express gratitude, they are together. They are two autonomous works in dialectical connection.
In a poem, there is a blank space in front of each verse. To create the blank spaces in the figures, I invented shadows. I edited photos I took of images I created dancing in the sun on a computer. One day, from the sidewalk to the balcony, a neighbor commented: — If it weren't for the cell phone, and the flower in the other hand, I would say it's T ài Ji.
