Charles Dickens - Oliver Twist
19.90€
The saga of the orphan Oliver Twist as he progresses through an inhuman world where, even so, there is always hope.
"This is Charles Dickens' second novel, inspired, like others, by his experiences as a child and young worker in an expanding industrial society that left no room for human beings." David Lodge
Oliver Twist is an orphan in a British society in the midst of the Industrial Revolution. Until the end of his childhood, Oliver is sold, traded, and used as if he were a product or a slave. After his time in an orphanage run by an oppressive regime, he is sold as an apprentice to a yoke maker. The mistreatment continues, and Oliver manages to escape to the metropolis, London, the capital of the greatest empire on the face of the earth, where human life continues to be worth less than the most insignificant coin. To survive, Oliver joins a group of pickpocketing boys who roam the streets of London in the service of the treacherous Fagin. Despite everything, there's always room for friendship and hope, and when all seems lost, you see a light at the end of the tunnel.
