Chico Buarque - Essa Gente

Author of a historical novel that caused a stir in the 1990s, writer Manuel Duarte is going through a creative and sentimental desert. Divided between several ex-wives, weighed down by heavy debts, surprised by a son whose father he is learning to be, Manuel Duarte wanders the streets of Leblon in between hours in front of the keyboard, desperate for a new book.

The backdrop is a Rio de Janeiro that bleeds and throbs under the scourge of social wounds that are becoming more ostentatious by the day; a larger setting where the individual wounds of the characters unfold, which together make up a diary in which they try to make sense of the turmoil of the present. In his best style, Chico Buarque blurs the boundaries between life, imagination, dream and delirium, and constructs an ingenious narrative, as amusing as it is tragic, in which the contradictions of a country threatening to fall apart are revealed between the lines, as well as the delicious inconsistencies and illusions of people like us.
