George Orwell - 1984

Winston Smith is a man with a peculiar job: as an employee of the Ministry of Truth, he corrects documents. Or rather, he rewrites history in order to legitimize the Party that governs London, a key piece of the Oceania superstate. Diluted in the fog, the city seems grayer to him now, under the constant surveillance of cameras and the penetrating gaze of Big Brother's images. Although all his movements are monitored, Winston begins a secret relationship with Julia.
Nineteen Eighty-Four is the dystopian world that Orwell saw approaching at the end of his days, becoming his last published work. In it, he imprinted the uncomfortable feeling that we live under the influence of an all-seeing eye – and that it is urgent to defend the idea of a politically free, intellectually free world.
