Years ago I began to think about how interesting it would be to discover other stories of a Porto that hides in the back of buildings, invisible to those who rush through its streets or climb its little staircases.

I thought I knew a lot about Porto, about the people who live there, about its streets and alleys, hidden and narrow, and about the smiles behind the windows. But one day I also started looking at the hidden gardens in the back of houses and inside certain dwellings, and paying more attention to certain images in our churches and chapels.
