Henry James - Calafrio - The Turn of The Screw (ed. bilingue)

    13.15€

The Turn of the Screw, by Henry James, was initially published serially in twelve parts, in serial form in issues of the literary journal Collier’s Weekly: An Illustrated Journal between January 27 and April 16, 1898, and in book form by William Heinemann, a London publishing house, on October 13, 1898.

It fits well into the genre in which Henry James was particularly successful, constituting a paradigm of this format "too short to be a novel and too long to be a short story".

It is considered one of the author's greatest literary triumphs while also being regarded as his most enigmatic and controversial work, provoking great controversy regarding the behavior of the main character: a governess who narrates the story of a pair of children possessed by the spirits of a valet and her predecessor in an old manor house in the Bly region of the English countryside. It remains unclear whether the events were actually real or the product of an obsessive imagination, which, from the perspective of Freudian analysis of repressed Victorian sexuality, could be seen and considered highly suspicious.

The Turn of the Screw is one of the great classics of modern literature, a portentous portrait of the struggle between life and death, between beauty and ugliness, between sanity and madness. For those seeking a psychological thriller of the highest literary quality, The Turn of the Screw is a fundamental work.
