On a small island lost in the Atlantic, a man seeks solitude and oblivion, but ends up finding much more.

The island is home to unique creatures: a dreamy priest named Elias Gro; an eleven-year-old girl skilled in anatomy; Alma, a lady with a heart bigger than the island; Norbért, a mad old man who has a habit of wandering at night; and the ghost of a writer whose house was swallowed by the sea.

The narrator, torn apart by the past, battles his demons in the place he chose to isolate himself: an abandoned lighthouse, at the mercy of the whims of Nature – and the other inhabitants of the island. With the slow pace of the changing seasons, the man emerges, step by step, from his hiding place, grieving and discovering, in a journey of joy and pain, the true measure of love.
