Without condescending to the slightest lack of rigor in the handling of sources, much less any loss of clarity in the exposition, Luís Cabral rejects such a stigma and considers Porto as the foundation for the memorial of its journey in the field of music. (...) All second-class cities struggle with competition, or with the sharing of prominence among themselves, and while in some cases they stumble, in others they manage to steer the ship of each, or both, to the desired glory. Porto is no exception, and the fruits it has reaped, perhaps viewed low-angle with emulation, compensate for its persistence south of supreme notoriety, currently mitigated by the advent of new technologies, something that could provide the sociology of culture with interesting material for observation. If this book, coupled with other contributions, serves the academic goal that Luís Cabral so exemplarily sought—that is, an overview of music in the City of Porto—it will undoubtedly have fulfilled its noble mission.
