Luiza Cortesão - Utopias da Educação na literatura infantojuvenil da 1.ª República Portuguesa

When the First Republic emerged in Portugal with the end of the Monarchy, it also brought with it a set of new and important problems, difficult to face, especially for the population of a country where Education and Culture had, until then, been very undervalued.

In this difficult and complex context, a group of intellectuals began to develop a dream: what if, for example, poets, writers, historians, agronomists, and artists from different fields produced high-quality children's and young adult literature books that would greatly interest readers and stimulate the development of intellectual and socio-affective qualities in the future republican citizen?

This book brings together and analyzes some of the works produced at that time, with the aim of discussing the possibility of this dream remaining merely a utopia and/or developing into an important tool that could truly contribute to the development of republican citizens with the qualities then envisioned.
