Oscar Wilde - A Casa das Romãs (ed. bilingue)
15.50€
The edition of THE HOUSE OF POMEGRANATES brings readers the stories (1854-1900) and the original illustrations by Charles Haslewood Shannon (1863-1937) and Charles De Sousy Ricketts (1866-1931), published in 1891 during the happiest and least turbulent period of Oscar Wilde's life. It primarily addresses one of his favorite themes: human beings and their doubles, and the not always faithful image that is expected of this image, which ends up acquiring strength and a life of its own. Wilde fills his stories with moving analyses and moral parables for all ages.
The stories included in this collection – THE YOUNG KING, THE INFANTA'S BIRTHDAY, THE FISHERMAN AND HIS SOUL, and THE STAR-SON – present Oscar Wilde's critical view of the customs and traditions of the society in which he lived, exploring a fantastic universe and discussing Love and its antagonistic relationships with Property, Knowledge, and Sensations; Oscar Wilde punctuates human relationships within social context with incredible sensitivity and invites the reader to reflect on each narrated moment.
Upon its publication, some critics judged "The House of Pomegranates" to be too complex for children, but Wilde clearly had broader ambitions and considered it absurd that "the extremely limited vocabulary available to the British child [should be] the standard by which an artist's prose could be judged."
