Mazzy Star – Among My Swan

Released in 1996, the third studio album by Mazzy Star further explores the American duo’s intimate, hypnotic sound, blending dream pop, folk rock, blues and psychedelia into a delicate, melancholic atmosphere.

Hope Sandoval’s soft, ethereal vocals complement David Roback’s atmospheric guitar work, with minimalist arrangements, subtle harmonies and occasional harmonica passages enhancing the nostalgic character of the songs. Moving between moments of contemplative calm and more intense psychedelic passages, the album creates an immersive sonic landscape shaped by longing, loneliness and emotional vulnerability. “Flowers in December” stands out for its delicate melody and expressive harmonica, while “Cry, Cry” reveals a bluesier edge and “All Your Sisters” embraces a more acoustic, introspective approach. The closing track, “Look on Down from the Bridge”, brings the album to a contemplative conclusion with an almost spiritual atmosphere. A subtle and emotionally rich release, ideal for listeners drawn to dream pop, alternative rock and timeless, atmospheric music.
