Coleman Hawkins, Ben Webster – Blue Saxophones

Recorded in 1957 and originally released in 1959, this album brings together two of the greatest tenor saxophonists in jazz history: Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster.

Accompanied by an outstanding group of musicians led by pianist Oscar Peterson, alongside Herb Ellis on guitar, Ray Brown on double bass and Alvin Stoller on drums, the two saxophonists create a musical encounter defined by elegance and natural rapport. Moving effortlessly between relaxed swing, blues and intimate ballads, their performances reveal two distinctive musical personalities that complement each other beautifully. Highlights include “Blues for Yolande”, “La Rosita”, “It Never Entered My Mind”, “Tangerine” and “Shine On, Harvest Moon”. A classic of traditional jazz, distinguished by its melodic richness, instrumental sophistication and memorable dialogue between two masters of the saxophone.
