Released in 2015, Asunder, Sweet and Other Distress marks a return to a more concise format for Godspeed You! Black Emperor, offering four extended tracks that unfold with a tighter structure compared to their earlier, sprawling works.

Recorded in studio but rooted in material developed live — most notably the long-form suite known as "Behemoth" — the album traverses drone, post-rock and noise with cinematic intensity. Layered guitars, controlled crescendos, and dense harmonic textures create a sense of urgency and grandeur that is both restrained and explosive.
