Long before ambient music had a name, Mort Garson was exploring the gentler, more contemplative possibilities of the Moog synthesiser. After writing pop hits, arranging for artists such as Doris Day and Glen Campbell, and composing music for the 1969 Moon landing broadcast, Garson created Mother Earth's Plantasia. Inspired by the 1970s fascination with The Secret Life of Plants, the album was originally given away with purchases from a plant shop in Los Angeles. Its warm, playful electronic compositions gradually earned a devoted following, and five decades later, Plantasia remains a visionary work and one of the most distinctive and beloved albums in the history of electronic music.
