Nubiyan Twist - Chasing Shadows

Nubiyan Twist return with Chasing Shadows, a record shaped by collaboration, groove and the unmistakable charge of musicians sharing a room. Led by producer and bandleader Tom Excel, the UK collective push their hybrid sound into richer territory, drawing on jazz, afrobeat, hip hop and electronic elements while keeping their focus firmly on humanity.

Created in response to an increasingly automated world, the album champions instinct, feel and collective energy. Excel describes it as a work built on “joy and defiantly human connection” — music that relies on chemistry rather than code.

Chasing Shadows follows the acclaim of Find Your Flame and introduces new vocalist Eniola alongside a cast of guests from across the group’s extended community. Malian icon Fatoumata Diawara brings fire to the title track, Joe Armon-Jones drives the dub-leaning ‘Rhythm Of You’, and the group reconnect with their hip hop roots on collaborations with Booty Brown, M.anifest and Mr Williamz.

True to the band’s outward-looking ethos, the album stretches across styles and continents while remaining grounded in warmth and positivity. It stands as a reminder of the collective strength that emerges when real players lock in together.
