The Black Wizards - Force Majeure & The Acts of God (purple)

The Black Wizards strip their sound back to the essentials on Force Majeure & The Acts of God, an album driven by urgency, frustration and dark humour. Named after the legal term for uncontrollable events, the record reflects both the turmoil surrounding its creation and the band's refusal to be overwhelmed by it.

Drawing on themes of politics, gender and toxic masculinity, the lyrics confront hollow leadership and social division with wit and momentum. Songs such as 'Killing The Buzz' blend pointed commentary with punchy, irreverent energy.

Moving beyond the expansive heavy psych of earlier releases, the Porto trio embrace a lean mix of garage rock, proto-punk and raw rock'n'roll. Recorded with Cooper Crain during an intense five-day session, the album captures The Black Wizards at their most direct, energetic and uncompromising.
