A cult favourite from Thee Silver Mt. Zion, 2005’s Horses In The Sky found the Montreal group pushing far beyond post-rock. Punk, emo, post-classical and folk influences collide across six restless pieces built from massed voices, strings, guitars and handclaps. The sprawling ‘God Bless Our Dead Marines’ and ‘Mountains Made Of Steam’ became live favourites, while the album’s mix of political anger, anxiety and stubborn hope helped establish its lasting reputation. Fierce, communal and defiantly difficult to categorise, it remains one of the group’s most celebrated records.
