Throwing Muses' self-titled 1986 debut gets a 40th anniversary reissue, bringing a long-unavailable 4AD favourite back into circulation.

The Boston band were the first American act signed to the label after founder Ivo Watts-Russell heard their demo cassette and was struck by their fierce energy and unusual songwriting. Led by Kristin Hersh and Tanya Donelly, the album combines angular guitars, fractured rhythms and intense, often unsettling vocals. Its influence helped establish 4AD's American alternative rock connections, paving the way for the Pixies, The Breeders and Belly.
