In gathering the stories in this collection—written sometimes with feverish enthusiasm, sometimes with erratic demotivation, having been crossed out, abandoned, resumed, and postponed countless times—I arrived at the end, at this present page, and asked myself the following question: what do these seemingly disparate stories have in common? Is there some kind of link in this jumbled mess, is it possible to discern a meridian between, for example, a story about a pyromaniac convinced that she was born "with the devil in her womb" and a story about a man who locks himself in his apartment, crushed by agoraphobia? And if it exists, has this spinal thread sprouted silently from my subconscious, visiting me like a ghost with its spectral hand resting on my shoulder, without my realizing it?
