Mujeres Libres (Free Women) is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary and important organizations of the 20th century in Spain.
Founded within the libertarian movement in 1936, they advocated for the unity of working-class women to fight for their emancipation. Their objective was to end the triple enslavement: the enslavement of ignorance, the enslavement of women, and the enslavement of production. Promoters of the Social Revolution and organized into local groups, Mujeres Libres developed an extensive program for the training and consciousness-raising of working-class and poor women.
And "although the total number of Mujeres Libres groups is yet to be discovered," the author tells us, in this work we will find them one by one; a total of 166 Mujeres Libres groups spread throughout the Republican zone. This is, after the pioneering work of Mary Nash, the most accurate figure obtained to date.
