In Porto of yesteryear, the cries of vendors echoed through the streets, painting a typical picture of the city's hustle and bustle. Many know the epithet "Porto, capital of work," but few know the trades that gave rise to it... This book of mine recalls and reveals some of the trades that occupied the people of Porto, some now extinct, others adapted to modern times. It aims to pay homage to them all.

In these pages, the reader will also discover why the women who sell heather deserve a statue, what tricks the milkmaids used to monetize their business, or why millers were frowned upon by the Church.

These and many other curiosities about unknown or nearly extinct trades are part of the city's history.
