Samuel Joseph Agnon - Ainda Ontem
24.90€
Israeli Nobel Prize-winning masterpiece translated into Portuguese for the first time.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Jews from all over Europe, pressured by political upheavals and the First World War, risk everything and follow the Zionist movement that impels them to return to Israel. Originally published in 1945, this epic novel follows the journey of young Isaac Kumer, from the poverty he experiences in Galicia-Polish (then the Austro-Hungarian Empire) to his arrival in Palestine, a saga about the difficult confrontation between dream and reality. Agnon uses a unique style, recreating the language of biblical stories, thus giving the narrative an almost mythological charge that captivates the reader as events unfold. With gentle irony and a profound reflection on human existence, Isaac repeatedly tries, in various ways, to change the course of his life, but always finds himself in the opposite position to the one he intends. The translation, from Hebrew, is by Lúcia Liba Mucznik.
