Gelson Oliveira & Luiz Ewerling – Terra

Terra is the debut album by Brazilian musician Gelson Oliveira in collaboration with drummer Luiz Ewerling, originally released in 1983 and later reissued by Mad About Records.

Recorded independently in southern Brazil, the album reflects the creative and experimental spirit of the local “gaúcho” music scene, blending jazz, funk, fusion and elements of Brazilian popular music. Built around rich rhythmic textures, sophisticated harmonies and a strong sense of improvisation, the record stands out for its authenticity and its seamless fusion of song-based writing with instrumental exploration. Despite the limited resources of its original production, Terra has become a cult classic of Brazilian instrumental music, valued for its energy, freshness and pioneering character.
