Kamasi Washington – Fearless Movement

Released in 2024, this album presents a more rhythmic and earthy approach to jazz, crossing improvisation, funk, hip-hop, soul, and electronic music.

Across 12 tracks, there are collaborations with Thundercat, Taj and Ras Austin, Patrice Quinn, DJ Battlecat, Terrace Martin, George Clinton, D Smoke, André 3000, and BJ the Chicago Kid. “asha the first” stands out with the participation of Thundercat and rappers Taj and Ras Austin, while “get lit” brings together George Clinton and D Smoke, and “dream state” features André 3000 on flute. “computer love,” “together,” “the garden path,” and “road to self (ko)” complete an album that favors movement, dance, and a more flexible band formation. The track “asha the first” also has a particularly personal connection: the melody was created by Washington's daughter, Asha, during her first experiences with the piano.
