Bill Callahan - My Days of 58

“My Days of 58” is Bill Callahan’s eighth album and his first since 2022.

Across twelve tracks, he deepens his singular songwriting by bringing the breathing energy of his live shows into the studio, sharpening his slice-of-life approach. The album features the core band from the “Reality” tour—Matt Kinsey, Dustin Laurenzi and Jim White—whose synergy was already evident on “Resuscitate!”. Driven by improvisation and spontaneity, Bill developed the songs closely with each musician, recording most basic tracks as a duo with Jim White, rehearsing guitar-to-guitar with Matt, and working on horn arrangements with Dustin. Conceived as a “living-room record,” it carries an intimate, relaxed atmosphere. To add further human color, he invited additional players such as Richard Bowden, Pat Thrasher, Chris Vreeland, Mike St. Clair and pedal-steel musician Bill McCullough, whose abstract, photographer-like approach he values. Callahan describes the process as a kind of improvised stew, guided by instinct and experimentation, always aiming to move beyond the initial “Eden” of each session to reach something alive and unexpected.
